Empowering People in the Community

At New Directions, we offer services that contribute to the well being of children, youth, adults, families and their community. New Directions’ values are integrity in all we do; honoring the strengths of people and community; holism including emotional, spiritual, physical, intellectual, environmental and cultural; respect for all people.

Empowering People in the Community (E.P.C) is one of the many programs offered by New Directions. E.P.C. is now accepting applications for Foster Parents to support adults who have mental and/or physical disability.

Successful applicants must have the following education, skills, and abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • First Aid (Emergency Level)
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Experience working with people with disabilities, Non Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (N.V.C.I.) and knowledge of American Sign Language (A.S.L.) are assets. Awareness of the following are assets: FAS/FAE, P.D.D., Asbergers and Autism

Job responsibilities include: supporting people with disabilities through empowering individuals to engage in vocational opportunities, independent living, educational opportunities, as well as recreational activities. Successful applicants will be subject to criminal record and child abuse registry checks.
