Project OASIS is On!

 With new funding from the Federal Department of Justice and Manitoba Labour and Immigration, Project OASIS has emerged as Project OASIS 2.

  • Our clients remain justice involved newcomer youth from war affected countries, 16 – 19 years of age, male and female.
  • Our mandate is to provide them with Workplace Essential Skills Training including reading, numeracy, document use, working with others and continuous learning.
  • Participants will be assessed before and after the program for skills and skill development. They will also develop portfolios to document their skills, strengths, employment interests and goals.
  • Upon completion of their individualized classroom training, they will be assisted in finding a job placement. It is our intention that this process will end with the participant’s attachment to the labour force.
  • In addition to classroom training and work placement, Project OASIS 2 will continue to provide wrap around services to the youth involved.

During their period of training, participants will attend programming from 10 am – 2 pm and will earn a stipend for their time they are in attendance and performing assigned work. In job placements, they will earn minimum wage.

 Staff of OASIS 2 include:

  • Susan Van Dreser, Coordinator and Case Manager;
  • Sylvanus Otterbein, classroom instructor (EAL/ESL certified), and
  • Adeolu Joseph, classroom assistant and mentor.

For more information, please contact Susan Van Dreser at 786-7051 ext. 5287 (fax: 783-0851).
